Storyline: They nailed me! I expected this week to be the letdown after the previous two weeks, which were absolutely fantastic. While I was totally comfortable upon reading that Hera would have to deal with the backlash from the New Republic, it did feel a little bit like a disappointment after two weeks back to back of just straight pure fire right in the veins. “It’s okay, this is the cool-down episode,” I kept telling myself. “Then we ramp up again toward the impending finale.” Every show needs this.
I was mistaken; although it doesn’t quite measure up to the other two, this episode delivers more than I anticipated in a really well-paced and well-balanced manner. I noted in my observations that this episode reminded me a lot of a Game of Thrones episode because it featured sequences with people dispersed throughout. You might give one character a scene, then have us jump to another as we traverse several realms, all of which finally come together. Starting with Hera and moving quickly to Ahsoka, Thrawn, Sabine, and Baylen gave off a similar feeling. At the episode’s conclusion, everything comes together. It was a joy to witness since it was so orderly and well-organized.
Every week, I realize how joyful my soul is and that I have been sitting there grinning ear to ear while laughing heartily at all the one-liners and creature bits. It feels the most Star Wars-related in a very long time. The show does a fantastic job of understanding and nailing Star Wars. All the parts that occasionally seem forced or corny don’t. The beats are spot on; it’s yet very familiar and quite unique. My favorite characters for a while were Andor and Mando S1, but Ahsoka has just stepped up and grabbed the lead. It is now intent on capturing the title of favorite non-movie thing from The Clone Wars. Dave is coming for you, so beware!
