If only “Spirited 2022” hadn’t continued tapping along to its own jokes. given how well-known the central Scrooge tale is. And that would have given us both darkly revisionist versions like “Scrooged” and widespread parodies. And its only advantage is that it actually does this. That wuffling would make for some really good jokes. As the present described Clint is “the perfect combination of Mussolini and Seacrest”. And Ferrell and Reynolds might have been amazingly singing and energetically choreographed. And nothing gets more efficient with comedy than with dance numbers. And though they happen to be perfectly adequate on that score. And it seems so. that they are having a wonderful time doing it. Whether the audience will have such a good time here or not is another matter. Because ultimately, “spirited” turns out to be not so specific. And that really separates it from the annual glut of vacation rentals. And pointing to the past is a popular way of killing time in the present. But which is probably not very auspicious.
